Each month I get my Sephora Play! Box in the mail and can’t wait to rip into it. April’s bag was all about “Stepping it Up!” This month we received staple products meant to up your beauty game.
This gentle skin cleanser from Philosophy claims to do it all. It’s a face wash that cleans, removes makeup, tones and hydrates! I have to say, after using it for a few days this week, I have enjoyed it. I am a fan of philosophy products – I SWEAR by this lotion whenever I feel a breakout coming on – and this face wash also hits the mark. I especially liked how foamy it got before I applied it to my face. I don’t know that foaminess necessarily correlates with cleanliness, but it makes me feel like its really working! Although it claims to be hydrating, I definitely would still use a moisturizer after this.
This. Lotion. Is. Amazing. I don’t know how it works, but Peter Thomas Roth has somehow created a lotion that feels like you are applying water to your face. It’s super hydrating and left my face feeling extremely soft. I couldn’t stop touching it. Plus, hyaluronic acid has natural anti-aging properties, which is an extra bonus in my skin care products these days. The only downside – the super steep price tag!
This Smashbox primer is a cult classic I’d always heard about but had never tried. I’ve only used it a couple days so far, but it seems like a solid primer. I felt like my makeup stayed put throughout the basic workday. No complaints, but I don’t think that I’ll be giving up my Clinique Pep-Start for this.
Make up forever usually can do no wrong in my book. So I was surprised when this turned out to be a huge disappointment. The pencil was waxy and I had a really hard time applying the color to my lid. It kept dragging, leaving a series of dots and dashes instead of a consistent line. I love an eye pencil that is creamy and glides on. There are some cool colors online, but at $21 for an eyeliner, this thing better do a cat eye on its own. No thank you, I’ll stick to my $6 Maybelline eye liner.
I was especially excited to see this waterproof makeup remover (and not because I couldn’t get that eye liner off fast enough!). I recently bought a gel liner without realizing it was waterproof. I was just about ready to return it, when I got this baby. This works like a charm, plus it doesn’t have that greasy residue like a lot of makeup removers, that leave your eyes feeling sticky the rest of the night.
This is a really nice spring/summer scent. It claims to be a “fresh, floral fragrance” which has lily of the valley and notes of honeysuckle. I thought it smelled more citrus than floral, but I enjoyed it. However, by the end of the day I had completely forgotten I was wearing perfume. It had completely worn off! Not quite what I’d be looking for if I had spent the $100 a bottle.
Another great month from play! Have you tried out any great “staple” items this month?
