We are under two weeks away from the fastest 2 minutes in sports – the Kentucky Derby! I am so excited because this year, my girlfriends are coming down for the Oaks, which is the Friday before derby. Oaks is when the fillies race, so naturally its the perfect way to kick off a girls weekend.

Horse racing is the oldest organized sport in the world, and there is nothing like the atmosphere around Louisville leading up to the Kentucky Derby. There are so many events going on, its impossible not to feel the buzz. We watched Thunder Over Louisville on Saturday, celebrating the kick off to derby with the nation’s largest fireworks show.

This Tommy Hilfiger dress is the perfect spring dress with pastel colors and a flattering fit and flare, a-line silhouette. If you’re looking for a derby dress (or just spring dress in general), this is a great option with a similar look to the one I’m wearing, or this blue striped one with adorable pom poms, this belted dress, or this blush and lace one!

You definitely need a comfortable pair of shoes when you spend a day at the races, and so I always love wearing a pair of wedges. They’re cute, but also offer some great support for your feet. I love nude ones because they go with everything, but don’t be afraid to add a pop of color, like these yellow ones (how adorable is the bow detail?!) or these blue ones.

And of course derby is all about the hats. There are tons of places in Louisville where you can actually go pick out colors and materials to have one made for you! I am partial to fascinators, and I love this feminine pink one because its subtle and cute, but you definitely look like you’re ready for the races. Plus, it’s attached to a headband so it will sit securely all day. And if you’re having trouble finding your hat or fascinator, don’t worry, I have a separate post on those later this week!
