Fourth of July in Chicagoland

We spent an amazing 4th of July weekend in Chicagoland, celebrating with family and friends. We always love visiting Chicago, especially in the summer months – “there’s nothing like summer in the city” for all my Hamilton fans! Since I’m originally from McHenry, which is Northwest of Chicago, it’s also where most of my family and friends live. So it’s great to catch up and there is always so much to do!

Saturday we started our July 4th celebration by combining it with my friend’s birthday for brunch at Fremont’s in Chicago. If you go here expecting a casual brunch, be warned . . . it is anything but! There’s a DJ, huge crowds, and lines just to get in the door. The food was delicious and the champagne was flowing (at least until 3:00pm). Then we were off to grab some margaritas and tacos – like any good 4th of July celebration should have!

I wore these high waisted white shorts that I got the weekend before we left. I love high waisted bottoms, and these were so comfortable! They paired perfectly with this silk blouse, for an on theme look without being too red, white, and blue (if there is a such a thing).

Sunday & Monday we were in McHenry to spend time with my family. We had to drive back to Louisville on Tuesday, the actual 4th, which was a bit disappointing and didn’t feel patriotic (I mean, if the 4th of July isn’t spent by a body of water or at a baseball game, is it really the 4th of July?!). However, when we arrived in Louisville it was overcast with a chance of storms, so it turned out we really didn’t miss out on any of my favorite festive activities.
